SECURITY WARNING TO ALL STUDENTS

OFFICE OF THE INFORMATION OFFICER
STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT
UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA

SECURITY WARNING TO ALL STUDENTS

First, we wish to appreciate the efforts of members of the Armed Forces Students Forum who were very instrumental in saving one of our female students who was raped in the early hours of Monday, November 21, 2016 in her private lodge off campus. The culprit planned a more wicked attack but was apprehended before he could go any further by some men of the Forum. He was taken to the Security Department and the Dean of Student Affairs was also notified of the matter; through her motherly advice and guidance, the victim, our dear student is currently being given proper attention as regards her rehabilitation, with a scholarship also being graciously granted her by our amiable Vice Chancellor as a way of compensating her.
It is also gathered that the proper legal attention is also being paid to the matter with the university legal unit being involved as due.

Now here is the warning:
1. As we draw close to the festive season, it is only wise that students be security conscious and mind their movement at various hours of the day.
2. As much as possible, stay away from night life and be back home as early as possible to avoid unforseen circumstances.
3. Report any suspicious movements in and around your environment to the nearest authority to you
4. Do not hang out at night, especially with strangers, as this may be very dangerous.
5. Beware of the kind of company you keep.

On another hand, we again appeal to our students to steer clear of military kits of any kind. These kits pose security threats to anyone using them as well as being punishable by law as it is seen as impersonation.

May the good Lord keep us safe and well to witness more years.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HON. KENE ANUMBA JP

OFFICE OF THE INFORMATION OFFICER
STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT
UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HON. KENE ANUMBA JP

Birthdays give us a chance to celebrate people who are dear to us. Today we celebrate a man of honour who is not just dear but special. As a member of the House of Representatives, he sits in the House Committed on Transport.
However, he is not a man to gloat over titles and offices, instead, he has shown himself a servant leader. While some persons wait to be given special recognition at events and programs, he is seen helping out with arrangements and decorations. While those who do not measure up to him are busy fighting over rights and privileges, he is busy looking for where the works are so he could help out.

The Students' Union Government is blessed to have you around in a time like this when leadership by example is a rare commodity and most occupants of various positions are all about personal gains.
Together we celebrate you, a product of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
May your days be greater and better than those of your forefathers.

INDIGENT, NOT INDIGENOUS

OFFICE OF THE INFORMATION OFFICER
STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT

REAWAKEN THE GIANT SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME UPDATE: INDIGENT, NOT INDIGENOUS

First,  we wish to appreciate all who have indicated interest in the scholarship by filling and submitting the application. We are sincerely humbled by the number of applications we have thus far received.

The clause "INDIGENT" attached to the application criteria has obviously got a number of persons confused, and it is important we explain that as it is our wish that non who truly needs this offer is denied it for any reasons.
By INDIGENT, we mean those students who are FINANCIALLY LESS CAPABLE to sustain the project of their academic pursuit. We do not in any way mean INDIGENOUS which is a reference to the person's place of birth or origin. Thus, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity notwithstanding where you came from. We all have one thing in common as dwellers in THE DEN OF LIONS.

Also, we need to reiterate the imported getting your copy of the recommended book as soon as possible if you have or will apply so you can prepare well for the screening. It is important to note that the scholarship screening will be coming up immediately after the close of the application. Thus,  the earlier you prepare the better.
Also note:
1. The scholarship is strictly for students in 100L and 200L only. This, applications from those not in this category are invalid.

2. Screening Questions for the examination will be drawn from the book: FREEDOM IN OUR BONES. Thus, it is important you buy the book and prepare well for the screening.
3. You are advised to get your copy of the specified book and obtain a receipt for the purchase. Your receipt for the purchase of the book will be a criteria for entrance into the screening exam hall.
5. We have very limited copies of the book left, and sales of the book is strictly on a first come first served basis. We thus encourage you to get your copy before or immediately after submission of your application form to ensure eligibility for the screening.

Remember,
Application opened on
Friday, November 11th, 2016 and closes on Thursday, November 24th, 2016.
You must be a student of the university with a valid Matriculation/JAMB Registration number to apply.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NOVA

OFFICE OF THE INFORMATION OFFICER
STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT
UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NOVA

...and it pleased the Lord to, at this time, give us a family. Though with our differences and challenges,  we still march on without falling apart. This is because someone somewhere is holding the centre.
We have so many names for her, some for her personality and others for her attitude.  She is full of life and excitement, but never jokes with doing it right.
She is the baby of the Union, a friend indeed, a comrade with a difference. Side by side we came to give the Nigerian Students good value for their time and trust in us. Thus far, you have not failed in your duties as the Treasure House of the Union. Though behind the scene, your  works are not without notice and the Rewarder of good works will forever remember you.
Add the Lord adds a year to your sojourn on this planet,  may He be pleased to establish His perfect will upon your life in Jesus name.
Happy Birthday Comr. Ozoemenam Victoria Adora (NOVA)

Re: PAYMENT FOR LAPTOP BEFORE COURSE REGISTRATION

OFFICE OF THE INFORMATION OFFICER
STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT
UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA

Re: PAYMENT FOR LAPTOP BEFORE COURSE REGISTRATION

We are not unaware of the delays some students, especially those in first and second year, are having with registering their courses as the university portal demands they pay for laptop before doing so.
You will recall that early this semester we informed you that laptop is now optional and only got those who apply on their own for it. This remains the truth. However, in the heat of the many complaints we got as regards the issue stated above, we made enquiries with the director of ICT/Innovations Unit and he assured us that it is an error and promised to correct it immediately.
On this note we want to plead with as many as made no choice of a laptop during their clearance and registration to nne patient while this error is corrected.
On the other hand, before you raise further alarm against a demand for payment of laptop fee, answer the following questions:
1. Did you pay the first instalment for laptop last session and are yet to pay that of this session?
2. Did you at any time during your registration give a positive response when asked by the portal if you want a laptop?
If your answer to any or both of these is a NO, then relax and wait for the error to be corrected. Otherwise, you have some personal issues to settle.
For those in the first category, you know what is demanded of you. For those in the second, your response shows you want to buy the university laptop and thus, you are required to make payment either in part or in full for it before you can proceeds with your course registration.

We apologize for whatever inconveniences these may or have caused. Please remember that course registration ends in less than two weeks after which late registration with start. It is therefore necessary you make hay while the sun shines.

ARMED FORCES STUDENTS FORUM MEET WITH THE SUG

Yesterday, November 2, 2016, ended on a very delightful note for the Students' Union Government as representatives of the Armed Forces Students Forum (AFSF) met with officials of the Union and promised to work with, not just the SUG but with the university authority to ensure that security on campus is given utmost priority. According to the representatives, the forum has been at its best in the area of protecting fellow students as much as they can, and have deemed it fit and necessary to officially present themselves to the Union as a student body on campus.
While promising that no student will under their watch be intimidated either by their men or any other, they also decried the indiscriminate use of military kits by non-military students. According to them, such things have various effects both on the defaulting persons and on their noble profession. These effects include:
1. Giving a bad name to the armed forces as most of those who use these kits perpetrate crimes with them.
2. It is impersonation which is punishable by law.
3. Whoever uses these kits endangers himself as men on military outfits are easy targets to criminals like robbers when they attack.
They therefore appealed to the general public, especially students of the university, to desist from such acts as those who continue therein are doing so at their own risk.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. J. U. NGONADI

It's unusual, never done this before but I can risk everything to do it this time.
All the while we have celebrated students on this platform but today, for the first time, we will be celebrating a lecturer, an academic staff of the one and only University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
He is a young man full of vibes and has fresh blood flowing through his veins. An archaeologist with a difference. A friend of his students who knows how to separate official matters from personal issues. I am tempted to mention specific names but will restrain myself. I remember a student who greatly insulted you on the day we wrote ACH 121 Exam. We were all scared he would carry over the course but were disappointed when he came out with a B. I asked and you said, "Your mark is your mark. If we have a quarrel we settle it on a personal basis, I don't victimize my students...".
I am privileged to call you my friend because you have, in so many ways, shown us that out lecturers can still be friendly with us and still maintain his respect with us. God bless you Sir.
For four years now, Team ATSA has never played any match without you in attendance except if you are not in town. Our cultural days and departmental weeks have always got your full support and participation. Out congresses have you in attendance always.
You are a great inspiration sir and I pray you live long and enjoy the fruit of your labour. May the good Lord continue to prosper you beyond your contemporaries in Jesus name.
Happy Birthday Sir
Ad multos annos!!!
